It’s women’s health week this week and it’s had me thinking about what that really means. What does that look like?
So first I looked to the definition of health
health
/hɛlθ/
noun: the state of being free from illness or injury.
But surely there’s more to being healthy than the absence of being sick?
So if we dig deeper.
Old English hǣlth, of Germanic origin; related to whole
Ah to be WHOLE
Whole Health is a state of complete physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
This feels good to me.
What might you need to be whole right now?
What support, medical care, education, space, time, resources would help you feel and be whole?
Who are the people and the places that support this in your life?
What extra care would you benefit from accessing?
For me it’s my partner, my acupuncturist, my girlfriends, a therapist, time in nature, movement, intentional time alone, play, I could go on and on. (a lot of this is clearly very privileged type of “health care”)
What I also know is that the things I need to support me being healthy and whole, ebb and flow. Sometimes simple and sometimes complex and resourced.
What I would also want every woman reading this to know is that this type of care, free or clinical or otherwise, isn’t in the pursuit of perfection, or enough-ness, or being fixed but instead about creating pathways to access the basic level of foundational support she needs to be simply who she is.
Thats my definition of whole health.
For every women in my life and all those I am blessed to meet on the treatment table.
What’s one step you can take this week to reclaim your wholeness?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
with love
