Where to start! It’s a moment like this where I realise that I haven’t even shared with you the magic of the retreat I went on in Sept last year! :) So I had better strike while the moment is still fresh and share with you some of the highlights of my very fast paced trip to Japan a couple of weeks ago. BUT FIRST!
A reminder that this is the last week to grab an annual subscription for 20% off in celebration of my Yang Shen workshop series starting next Tuesday. It comes down to around $70 Aussie Dollars which is a pretty affordable way to work with me across 12 months and 6 group workshops!
My intention is to offer you a reliable informative and easy way to access the holistic wisdom of Chinese Medicine and apply it in your life. In a world full of hacks proclaiming a quick and easy to fix all that ails us I know that what actually works to create lasting and meaningful change, is the accumulative power of simple practices, done regularly and chosen in accordance with our own personal circumstances.
How much time elapses while we’re looking for a quick fix?
The link to the first workshop and details can be found here. (I will resend the link to everyone before next Tuesday)
I also share a little more on the nature of Yang Shen here
Ok so Japan. It was a wild one, and while it was a “Moxa Study Tour” I’m going to save the moxa part for its own article which I feel it deserves.
Strap in for the highlights.
I managed to catch a train straight from the airport to our accomodation in Asakusa, which I’m pretty impressed by! The Kaminarimon Gate was my first sight upon exiting the train station.(that big red lantern) And after all that travel an Onsen was needed first thing the next morning. Kat and Catherine and I went to see the Boundless Exhibit that was on in Tokyo on the Sunday before we all met up to start the tour on Sunday night. We went straight from the mind bending technological wizardry of Boundless to a gorgeous walk through the Imperial Gardens … which I can’t seem to find photos of! (But will be there somewhere.) Day one was spent in clinic with Edward Sensei and then up to Shibuya Sky to marvel at the scramble below. If you’ve not seen this before head to my instagram highlight or just google Shibuya Scramble, it’s a lesson in sensory overwhelm but has to be seen to be believed. Then if you can believe it, our day continued with a good walk (and when I say good, every “15 min walk” turned into at least 40 ) through Shibuya (across the scramble for full effect) and to a very special Tofu restaurant.
Yes the days were long and my bed time left well behind 🤣
In the pouring and very cold rain we hiked for quite some time to the Sugiyama Shrine and received a blessing from the priestess for the wellbeing of our clinics and clients. It was a really beautiful experience.
Sugiyama was the creator of the acupuncturist guide tube or “shinkan” the story of how he came to create this tool we use everyday is in the link above. There was also a gorgeous Shinto shrine to Saraswati the goddess of acupuncture. There were layers of faith, deities and persons of historical significance are present in all the shrines and sacred sites we visited. It made for a some very meaningful experiences.
And in the interest of keeping it real, here is some incredible looking Matcha flavoured Tofu with Goji Berries which I was not fond of at all :) and our very wet clothes drying with the heating on when we got back to our room at the end of Day 2. Adventure is part of every travel story have no doubt!
Next instalment will include our deep dive into how Moxa is made and of course the most incredible part of our journey; spending time with Ikeda Sensei. A teacher that for many of us was our first taste of Japanese acupuncture while we were studying over 20 years ago.
Thank you for indulging me in what is a modern day version of a slide show :)
What would you like to hear more about in the next email?
